Project Overview

Construction of biosolids processing and handling equipment/facilities, including two centrifuges, chemical stabilization equipment, stabilized biosolids loadout equipment, and ancillary chemical systems adjacent to the existing treatment facility. 100% waste activated sludge from extended aeration oxidation ditches is collected from final clarifiers, thickened by gravity belt and dewatered by centrifuges. Lime mixes with the dewatered sludge.

Work also included a truck bay for interior solids unloading, centrate and TWAS storage tanks and pumping, storage and maintenance garage, locker room with showers, break room/office-controls space, SCADA upgrades, two activated carbon odor control systems, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and sitework.

Due to the size, the equipment had to be coordinated with the structural steel and prior to the roof installation. The equipment is placed on various levels throughout the facility, requiring the installation crew to place chutes, sleeves, and conveyors precisely. To meet the stringent classification, an exhaustive start-up, analysis, and adjustments were performed to get the process dialed in and compliant.

The project was started during the COVID-19 pandemic, forcing excellent communication and coordination, including out-of-state equipment vendors. This team only had one in-person meeting: at the final punch list walk. All other communication and meetings were remote and virtual.
