SMSC South Service Area WTP

Shakopee, MN

Project Overview

This plant is a state-of-the art 4.6 MGD water treatment facility constructed to treat groundwater for the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC). The site was located between a wetland, a lake, a county road and located along the edge of a subdivision being constructed by others.

Major components included installation of two new production wells on the WTP site, abandoning three water wells, multiple connections to the existing water system, construction of reclaim tanks, detention tank, iron/manganese filter tanks, clearwell tanks, reverse osmosis equipment, RO blend water tank, chemical rooms, and office/laboratory space.

Providing a firm GMP very early in the process allowed SMSC to make decisions about their completed facility and allowed them to sell their water to Prior Lake expeditiously. The collaborative nature of the project allowed for flexibility in the design as it progressed while not endangering the GMP or schedule.
